1. What does the word Gospel mean?.....evangelistee

A. Literally - a present given in return for good news

B. Later - it became known as "The Good News itself"

C. So...we say the Good News according to Matthew, or Luke or John,,,,because its God's Good news, that he gace to them to preach

D. However, the Gospel didn't start with them....they just concluded it....it really began way before them with God himself in the Garden of Eden

2. The History of the Good News

A. Gen 3:16 After the sin..the first revelation of the Good News...the messianic hope

B. Gen 4:1 Eve, thought she gave birth to the messiah...but Cain was not

C. Gen 5:28-29 Noah lived until 950 years, and probably knew Lemech, and revealed to him the curse on the ground, so Lemech, thought maybe Adam must first die, and then the Messiah would come..."This one will give us rest from our curse...but Noah wasn't the Messiah

D. Gen 9:28 Noah lived 350 years after the flood, which means that Abraham knew Noah,, since he died 50 years after Abraham was born"I wonder what there conversations were about?"

E. Gen 12:1 Abraham hears from the Lord 20 years after Noah dies....what does he hear?The Good News?...

a. You get a land

b. You get a people

c. Your seed brings in Messiah

F. The NT gives us a better picture of the mindset of Abraham

a. Heb 11:9.."By faith Abraham lived as an alien in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, dwelling in tents with Isaac and jacob, fellow heirs of the same promise, for he was looking for the city which has its foundation whose architect and builder is God

b. John 8:56 "Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day, and he saw it and was glad

3. So...How did Abraham receive the Gospel...........

The Pasha for this week.......I call the Gospel of Abraham

A. I believe he understood things from Noah that he heard from his father that he heard from Adam...about this messianic hope

B. I believe he understood general things, but this Pasha reveals the whole Good News picture....

C. Jesus said...He rejoiced to see my day

4. The Pasha is like a picture of the future for Abraham, but is told through the events of his life...in LITERARY TERMS

Foreshadowing

In drama, a method used to build suspense by providing hints of what is to come. In Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet," Romeo's expression of fear in Act 1, scene 4 foreshadows the catastrophe to come:

I fear too early; for my mind misgives
Some consequence yet hanging in the stars
Shall bitterly begin his fearful date
With this night's revels and expire the term
Of a despised life closed in my breast
By some vile forfeit of untimely death.
But He that hath the steerage of my course,
Direct my sail!
On, lusty gentlemen.

TYPE

In Theological terms, we call it a type

A. By looking at Isaac, we can see a picture of the future Messiah, and possibly see what Abraham would have seen

I The birth announcement......Messianic Hope

Biblical look

A. Gen 18:1 The Lord appears to Abraham

B. Gen 18:2 Abraham bows down..realized he was in the presence of the Lord

C. Gen 18:3 If I have found favor, please don't pass your servant .....Abraham was looking for the Lord to reveal to Him, more of the story, than just this is your land, and you will have a people ....There has to be a reason for all of this, and I believe Abraham wanted to know

D. Gen 18:6-9 Abraham serves the angels a meal, and then the Lord reveals something special

E. Gen 18:14 Is anything to difficult for the Lord..sarah will have a son

Rabbinic look:

A. The Lord appears to Abraham 3 days after Abraham is circumcized. He is still hurting

B. However, his need to do charity, show tzedakah to the angels, is so far and above what he should be doing,

C. He is running back and forth and served them a meal, fit for a king

D. The rabbis teach that this act was so grand, that The Lord later gave the Jews manna in the wilderness, water in the well of Miriam, quails and the cloud of Glory

E. Finally, a son from Sarah who would be worthy of decedents

Messianic Look: Luke ch1 The angels announce a miraculous birth

A. God didn't find favor with Abraham because of his kindness...in GEN 15:6

"...And he believed in the Lord and it recognized it to him as righteousness."

Acts 4:2 "If Abraham was justified by faith, he has something to boast about."

B. The Lord choose Abraham, because he already had a plan that he planned beforehand...Now he shows Avram

C. The angels announce the birth of Isaac, to fully show the hand of the Lord in making all this possible

D. In Luke 1:30

"The angel said to her, Do not be afraid because you have found favor with the Lord (same thing Abraham asked for) FAVOR. And behold you will conceive and bear a son and you shall name Him Y'shua

E. Luke 1:37:

For nothing will be imposible for the Lord

F. Is anything to difficult.....Both times it was the Lord, that had to intervene for this to happen

II What to do with sin?......Messianic Plan

Biblical:

Gen 18:17 Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do.

Gen 18:18 Since all the nations will be blessed? We should tell him.

A. The Lord needed Abraham to know why his seed is needed. Not just for Israel, but all the nations of the earth

B. The Lord is revealing to Abraham, that the future Messiah is for the world

Gen 18:23 Abraham asks the Lord will he judge the righteous with the wicked

Gen 18:24-33 The Lord told Abraham, he would save them all for just one righteous man

Rabbinic:

A. The merits of the righteous can save people from sin

B. They say Abraham learned from Noah. Noah didn't pray for the wicked to repent, and thus only showed them by his deeds of obeying God, therefore Noah saw no ball shuvah in his day

C. Abraham, when hearing of the judgement, prayed to the Lord for their rescue

D. The sages say, this teaches us, that when a Jew see anything that is against the Lord, it is his obligation to speak up.

E. Thus teaching us this: The blessing that will be seen through Abraham, is the Jewish people teaching the world about Torah.

Messianic

Rom 3:16 All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God
Rom 6:23 The wages of sin are death
Ezk 33:11 I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked

***What we see is very simple: God will judge sin...how can we prevent this happening to us

Illustration: There was a righteous man who lived in a neighborhood which was being harassed by robbers. Fearing for his life, he prayed to the Lord to take these sinners life. His wife over heard him and scolded him. She said the Scriptures don't say sinners will be removed from the earth, but that sin shall be removed.

So the 100,000 dollar question? How do we remove sin?.....mitvah or Messiah

I believe the Lord in this next chapter, shows Abraham the future. How much he was to see in his own sons life, would give him sure understanding about the role of Messiah.....That's why Jesus stated...Abraham saw my day and rejoiced

As we look forward to the akedah, it was through this lens, that Abraham fully understood Messiah and what he would do
